DNS Help

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of demoting old 2003 dc's which are also dns servers. At the moment we have 6 dc's, three 2003 and three 2008r2 servers. They are all DNS servers.

I am using wire shark to track down which clients in the domain are still trying to use the old 2003 DCs for their DNS servers.

Now what I am finding is that there is alot of DNS traffic between the three 2003 dcs requesting standard dns query’s from each other. Looking at their network config, the DNS settings which was configured for each of the 2003 DCs was set to point at each other for DNS traffic.

I have reconfigured the network cards on the three 2003 DC's to use the 2008DC's for their DNS requests. Will this help? The reason I want to do this is so that the capture on Wire shark has minimum information which will make it easier to read so that I can locate the actual clients that I need to reconfigure.

I hope that makes sense

Thanks

Mac
