We have Win2k8 R2 DCs.
We have forest root domain (domainA.com). We have a child domain (child.com). We set the DC's in child.com to forward unanswerable name res requests to DC's in domainA.com.
We now have a need to resolve domain names hosted in domainB.com. domainB.com is hosted by an external client and the name is not published in the cloud - we're tunneling directly.
I've setup conditional forwarders for domainB.com within domainA.com (only replicated within the domain, not the forest - intentional). We can resolve names nicely from domainA.com systems.
No further configuration has been performed within child.com DNS. We cannot resolve domainB.com names from systems within child.com. I would have thought the child.com systems would have passed the resolution request to child.com DNS servers, which in turn would pass it up the line to domainA.com DNS servers ... which would then pass the request over to the domainB.com DNS servers for final name resolution.
Why doesn't this work?
Thanks in advance for your help.
