Hi experts,
assume one has a single site AD concept spanning several "well connected" IP subnets A,B,C. Lets futher assume that IP subnets A and B do contain at least one domain controller, while site C has none. Common wisom is, that a client beeing a member of IP subnet A may be assigned any domain controller in subnet A or B for login, GPO and script processing.
Q1: Is this statement correct under all circumstances, or is there a way of configuration so that a client in subnet A does alwaysprefer a DC located in subnet A, and only use a controller in subnet B if all controllers in subnet A have failed?
Q2: a client in C does, according to common widom, select a controller in subnet A or B by chance. A variant of the above question is, whether it is possible to configure this client so it does always prefer a controller which is, say, located in subnet B
Now please don't tell me about the site concept of the Active Directory, which does free me of the burden of assigning DCs to clients. There are scenarios where the automatism does not deliver satisfactory results, and I wonder if I, beeing smarter than any automatism and beeing able to tell which DC is best for a specific client, can override the automatisms if I wish to do so.
Thanks, Armin
