Hi everyone,
I currently have 2 domain controllers that were recently upgraded to Server 2008R2, but we are still running at a 2003 Domain Functional Level due to some old legacy applications. My question is somewhat two-fold.
To give a background on the situation you'll have to understand our environment which is as follows:
2 Domain Controllers running Server 2008R2 that serves ourcompany.com. These domain controllers also hosts DNS and DHCP services. The current Forest Functional Level is 2003 and Domain Functional Level is also 2003. In addition to ourcompany.com we have one separate domain controller that hosts the child domain (test.ourcompany.com) that is running Server 2003.
My question:
1) We plan on decommissioning the child domain as everything there will be eliminated and moved to a new forest (essentially started from scratch). What steps are necessary to properly remove the child domain? It is to my understanding that dcpromo will be used in some sort of fashion such as: dcpromo /unattend /username:<Domain Admin Account> /userdomain: test.ourcompany.com /password: <Domain Admin Password> /administratorpassword: <Password>
2) Is there anything else that needs to run in order to completely remove the child domain?
Once the child domain is removed I should be able to move forward with raising the domain functional level of ourcompany.com to 2008R2, correct?
What steps need to be done in order to complete this?
I'd assume some fashion of adprep such as adprep /domainprep on the domain controller holding the FSMO role needs to be done?
