NIS, NFS, AD DS

So im reading the posts that I can find on this topic but figured I would ask as well.

We have unix servers that NFS mount volumes that are on our NetApp. These shared are accessed by unix clients exclusively and auth/access are handled via UID/GID's in unix, where we have LDAP and NIS. We would like to handle auth/access to these shares via AD (we are at 2k8 R2 domain functionality) but I just seem to be missing something conceptually.

Do I need Server for NIS and if so, does it have to be master for the NIS domain? Im certain that makes the unix side here nervous if so.

Im still not getting how it would be managed regardless. I know with our CIFS shares I can remote manage the NetApp and just setup share/ntfs permissions like it was a windows server. Even with the NetApp pointed to AD im missing how access would be handled for NFS shares that are exported fromNetApp and mounted on a unix system. Hoping that will become more clear as the pieces fall together or as I read/learn more.

as always....thank you for any pointers
